Stephan Bognar is the Chief Executive Officer of the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
In 2003, Ms. Angelina Jolie created the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation (MJP) an organization for the conservation of Cambodia’s endangered Cardamom Mountains’ northern territory. Formally known as the Maddox Jolie Project and based in Cambodia's rural and impoverished north-west, the initial focus of its conservation work was on the protection of Samlaut National Park (Samlaut Protected Area), an area that contains most of the region’s biodiversity: forests, freshwater ecosystems, and endangered species.
In his role as CEO, Bognar designs, implements and manages MJP’s global community and conservation portfolios. Before joining MJP, Bognar worked for both WildAid USA and WildAid Cambodia, an international wildlife conservation organization dedicated to fighting the illegal wildlife and timber trade. He worked as a field agent and international senior officer.
Bognar started his international career at the United Nations (UNIDO) in Vienna, Austria in 1993. Following his work in Vienna, he spent over 10 years working as an environmental, health and safety consultant around the globe. He has a master's degree in International Law from the University of Vienna (Austria) and a bachelor's degree in Political Science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
In 2001, Bognar continued his studies in Sustainable Development with a focus on conservation at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. In April 2003, Bognar spent two months providing primary care, maintenance and training for the animals and workers at the Baghdad Zoo, and leading undercover sting operations to reclaim many of its lost and stolen animals while witnessing the war experience first-hand.
