We are have developed a Sustainability Strategy to minimise and compensate for environmental impacts associated with the delivery of the inaugural International Healthy Parks Healthy People Congress.
To help increase the sustainability of the congress, we have established appropriate procedures and practices to minimise the consumption of energy, water, paper and other material inputs, while reducing the generation of waste.
The first step was the selection of venue. The Melbourne Convention Centre is the first convention centre in the world to achieve a 6 Star Green Star environmental rating.
To further offset the Healthy Parks Healthy People congress, included in your Congress registration is a fee to deliver landscape scale revegetation as part of a Habitat 141° the official congress partner.
Habitat 141° is a large scale, long term landscape scale initiative with a vision “to work with communities to conserve, restore and connect habitats for plants and wildlife on a landscape scale from the outback to the ocean”.
Habitat 141° aims to safeguard the natural, cultural and associated agricultural environments of western Victoria, eastern South Australia and western NSW (along longitude 141) against the threats of climate change.
The region is currently recognised as a biodiversity hotspot, but the viability of these values is challenged by climate change, invasive species and fragmentation.
Habitat 141° will reconnect isolated native vegetation remnants, strengthen core reserves and enhance their resilience by harnessing a growing community desire to participate in meaningful, sustainable and practical on-ground actions.
For further information on Habitat 141° you may wish to download an information sheet.
